Leading the Way in Campus Sustainability

The Piedmont Environmental and Conservation Effort Club (PEACE Club) has quickly become one of the most influential organizations on campus. With initiatives ranging from recycling programs to trash collection and plans for a campus garden, the club is actively shaping a culture of sustainability that touches every student.

PEACE Club’s mission is simple yet powerful: lead by example and live sustainably. President Dana Davis and Vice President Jessica Eanes have worked tirelessly to implement actionable programs that protect the environment and engage students in meaningful ways.

From Inspiration to Action

Dana Davis’ passion for sustainability was sparked by a simple observation—when she arrived at Piedmont, there was no on-campus recycling. Determined to make a change, Davis set two goals: establish a campus recycling program and teach students practical ways to live sustainably.

“I feel like it is our calling to take care of the Earth we are blessed to walk on,” Davis explains. Her faith and dedication drive the club’s initiatives and inspire other students to take part in sustainable practices.

Hands-On Efforts: Recycling, Cleanups, and More

PEACE Club continues campus cleanups where students collect trash from sidewalks, wetlands, and other areas around campus. Recycling has also become a cornerstone of the club’s efforts. Bins have been placed in dorms and educational buildings, allowing students to sort paper and plastic efficiently.

Eanes and Davis even repurposed old bins and cardboard boxes to reduce waste further—showing that sustainability can be resourceful as well as impactful. As the volume of recyclables grew, Eanes now sorts materials to a nearby facility in Clarkesville, ensuring the program runs smoothly.

Looking Ahead: Gardens, Community, and Connection

The PEACE Club isn’t stopping at recycling. They are raising funds to start a campus garden behind Loudermilk Field. This garden will grow fruits and vegetables for students to harvest themselves, promoting social connection, environmental education, and reduced carbon footprints. Any unharvested produce will be donated to the student success center’s food pantry, extending the impact beyond the garden itself.

Beyond physical projects, PEACE Club encourages students to connect with nature and with each other. Sunrise trips to Currahee Mountain, flower planting around campus, and other events give students time to reflect, bond, and appreciate the environment they are working to protect.

A Model for Campus Engagement

The PEACE Club’s initiatives exemplify how student-led programs can foster sustainability, community, and education. Their efforts go beyond resume-building—they cultivate habits and a sense of community that strengthen campus culture.

At PromoLeaf, we are proud to support organizations like PEACE Club, whose work aligns with our values of environmental responsibility and community engagement. By highlighting their achievements, we hope to inspire others to take action in their own communities.
